Put Down the Bread
I can clearly remember the day I was in the gym and I heard this quiet small voice inside me say "just put down the bread"! At first I didn't know what to think, but as those words penetrated me I remember thinking to myself "Wait a second, I am way stronger than a piece of bread if that is the one thing that is holding me back from attaining the goals I have!" After all I am stronger than the bread; literally and physically.
Deep down inside I know there is zero added nutritional benefit to eating bread. In actuality there is a negative effect on the body to eating bread. Bread is high in carbohydrates and elevates blood sugar causing weight gain. That alone is enough reason that bread would be a no go for me. One amazing thing I noticed after "quitting bread" is that I started feeling good. Not just a ho- hum I feel okay, but I really started feeling good. I notice I have more energy, more focus, more endurance in my workouts, clearer and younger looking skin. Not only did I quit eating bread, but there are zero grains in my diet. I will be honest, at first it took a great amount of self-control on my part to eliminate all the preconceived ideas I had around thinking I needed grains in my diet. But as I progressed more and more away from eating bread and grains, I realized it was just a paradigm shift that I needed in this area.
Now, I can go to a restaurant and it never enters my mind even having bread or grains as an option to my meal. That was something I never thought would be possible. Sometimes the best strength training is mental! It helps us become stronger in all areas of our life!
