Are you starving yourself?
The other day while I was in spin class I had a thought that came across my heart "are people starving themselves?"
Did you know there is a minimum caloric requirement your body needs, even if you are just sitting on the couch all day? They call it your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR for short). There are many people who barely eat the minimum calories they need in a day then go hit the gym, run errands or chase their kids. Thus, starving themselves.
Take me for instance... My BMR is 1473 calories a day. If I eat that amount of calories, hit the gym and burn 700 calories in a spin class, my total calories is 773 for the day. Essentially I am starving. If we take our BMR to the next level and add the Harris Benedict Equation we can get an idea of how many calories our bodies need based on our activity level.
After doing this equation, my Caloric Needs for the day to perform at my best is 2283.
So that being said, "are you starving yourself"? Do you eat enough calories to perform at your best? Do you eat the right foods to fuel your body within the calories you are eating?
